The Thunderbird was never considered sports car by Ford but rather touring car. The name Thunderbird was borrowed from Indian legend as represented power, swiftness and pros sperity. As legend had ie the Thunderbird would flap its wings and bring thunder and lightning and rain to the parched land o the southwest.
